Ubuntu Charity Cricket Tournament

Players
A huge thank you to everyone who was involved in our Charity Cricket tournament.

Sunday was our eagerly awaited annual Ubuntu Charity Cricket Tournament with players from under 10 years of age, all the way through to the men and women senior league players, seeing a total of over 50 players across four teams. Each team was captained by a girl (Jamie-Lee, Immy, Liv and Sophie) from the Owls (a combination of Whimple and Ottery St Mary Cricket clubs). It is important to us to highlight the skills of the young aspiring cricketers and in particular the talented girls coming through from Whimple CC and Ottery St Mary CC.

Supporting young aspiring female cricketers is of paramount importance for several reasons. The promotion and development of women’s cricket not only brings gender equality to the sport but also contribute to the overall growth and success of the game. When young girls see successful female cricketers in action, they are inspired to dream big and believe in their own abilities. By supporting young aspiring female cricketers, we create a platform for them to showcase their talent, gain recognition, and become role models for future generations. These role models help break down barriers and empower girls to pursue their dreams, both in cricket and in other areas of life.

Cricket match

Game 1 saw Ubuntu Wild Dogs beat Whimple Hornets In a super over after tying the game after 100 balls each. Game 2 saw Whimple Warriors win an impressive amount of runs against the Ubuntu Sables. The final was closed with Whimple’s South African Corne Botes carrying Ubuntu Wild Dogs to victory with one ball to spare against Whimple Warriors.

The Ubuntu charity cricket match was a grand success, bringing together cricket enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The spirited event aimed to raise awareness and fundraise for our invaluable conservation projects.

Special thanks to the match ball sponsors KD Crellen and Pipers Farm who sponsored the day. We must not forget to say a huge thank you to all the players and everyone who came to support the event.

We are one charity and club united.

I am, because we are.
