The Shining Stars Football club was started in early 2020 during the Covid19 pandemic.
Ntokozo Msane formed the club to mitigate socioeconomic issues faced by the members in Mduku community in rural KwaZulu-Natal. Many of the regions people were suddenly unemployed due to the pandemic. The region was already the 2nd most impoverished region in South Africa and unemployment very high especially amongst the youth. Having little hope for the future and no support to face the hardships – Shining Stars has become a place for these young men to find a place and socilaise with friends. They work and train together as a team and play in the local soccer league.
Since its inception the team has grown and currently stands at approximately 20 young men. Ubuntu Wildlife Trust partnered with Pro:Direct from the UK to sponsor uniforms and boots for the players.
The uniforms were delivered in June 2022. The boots have been sponsored and will arrive in September 2022. We are currently working on raising funds for training equipment and will continue to support the team in the years ahead.
