Donation of PetEMed to Kruger National Parks K9 Centre

Today (27th September 2020) Ubuntu Wildlife Trust donated 60 units of PetEMed to Kruger National Park K9 Centre, South Africa. A fundraiser was set up back in July to raise £350 to purchase 60 units of PetEMed, after being asked to help support the SANPark’s Kruger National Park Anti-Poaching K9 Centre. After successfully raising the funds and purchasing the units, our team were finally able to hand deliver the units today.

South Africa’s Kruger National Park (KNP) is under greater threat from poaching then ever before as a consequence to COVID-19. A sudden halt in tourism seen earlier this year meant the added protection of the eyes and ears of around 5000 tourists per day in and around the Greater Kruger National Park, day and night, the poachers are benefiting from the COVID-19 crisis. The counter poaching units have been stretched to their absolute limits to protect KNP enormous area (19,485 km², equivalent in size to the entire country of Israel).

The Kruger National Park k9 Centre explained to our guys how poisoning of anti-poaching dogs is bigger than ever and especially for them.  Poachers have responded to the brilliant effect of anti-poaching dogs are having in the war against poaching by trying to eliminate them in targeted poisonings. This is why PetEMed is proving to be an invaluable tool to have if their emergency med-kits whilst on the front line of anti-poaching.

Scent with our donation of PetEMed.

Today our team met ‘Scent’, one of the centres female anti-poaching dogs. She can be on anti-poaching patrols travelling up to 15km a day. At any point on her patrols, Scent could come in contact with a deadly poison. With our donation of 60 units of PetEMed, each dog handler and operator of KNP k9 Centre will carry the units as part of their kit. This allows the handler to administer this live saving medicine in the field, giving the dog a chance at survival.

60 units = up to 60 anti-poaching dog lives can be saved

With all your generous donations and ongoing support, we can continue to provide units of PetEMed to Kruger National Parks K9 Centre and help save the lives of their very special dogs, like Scent.
